STEP 3-1-7. Get someone to accompany you to the municipal office

Going through various procedures at the municipal office is the most challenging part of the moving process for foreigners.

This is because the government offices are not very computerized and the procedures must be done in person.

In addition, there are not many who can speak foreign languages at the government offices!

In big cities, there may be some foreign language-friendly municipal offices, but if you do not understand Japanese to some extent, it will still be difficult.

Therefore, it would be ideal if you can have someone who understands and communicates in Japanese to come with you!

If you have a family member or relative living in Japan, or a trusted friend or acquaintance, ask him or her to come with you.

Most government offices in Japan operate only on weekdays.
You will need to ask him or her to come with you during the office hours on weekdays (usually 9:00 to 17:00).
